Take Your Dog to Work Day is celebrated worldwide, typically on the Friday following Father's Day, which falls every June 24. This annual event was initiated by Pet Sitters International (PSI) in 1999 in the United States, with the aim of promoting the human-animal bond and encouraging dogless coworkers to adopt dogs from shelters. The inaugural event saw participation from approximately 300 companies. After a brief acquisition by Pets.com in 2000, PSI regained control and has continued to coordinate the celebration, which has since gained popularity in Canada, the UK, Australia, and New Zealand. Each year, PSI provides a free Action Pack on its website, containing planning tips and resources for companies wishing to participate, and registration is not required for involvement.
