National Iodine Day is observed in Thailand every June 25. Established by the Thai government in 2002, this day aims to educate the public about the dangers of iodine deficiency and to celebrate the achievements of the country's iodine deficiency disorder (IDD) elimination program. The observance is linked to the awarding of a gold medal to King Bhumibol Adulyadej by the International Council for the Control of Iodine Deficiency Disorders Global Network in 1997 for his contributions to preventing iodine deficiency. The Ministry of Public Health implements key prevention measures such as supplying iodized salt, providing iodine supplements to pregnant and lactating women, and ensuring access to iodized drinking water in remote areas. The initiative also includes the establishment of "Iodine Villages," which promote IDD prevention and control policies.
