Crimean Tatar Flag Day is observed every June 26, primarily in Ukraine, particularly in Kyiv and other cities with significant Crimean Tatar populations. This annual celebration honors the ethnic flag of the Crimean Tatars, which features a light blue banner with a yellow emblem in the top left corner. The flag symbolizes the unity of the Crimean Tatar people and incorporates the Giray tamga, an emblem historically associated with the House of Giray, the ruling dynasty of the Crimean Khanate from the 15th century until its annexation by the Russian Empire in 1783. The flag was first adopted by the national assembly of Crimean Tatars (Kurultai) in 1917 and was reinstated as the ethnic flag in 1991. Since 2010, the day has been celebrated under the motto “Two flags, one country,” reflecting the shared blue and yellow colors of the Ukrainian national flag.
