This cultural observance, although not a non-working holiday, features various celebrations throughout the country, including poetry readings, lectures, and exhibitions. Magtymguly Pyragy, who lived in the 18th century, is credited with introducing realistic style to Turkmen poetry and promoting Turkic languages over Persian. The day was previously celebrated on May 18 as part of a public holiday that also honored the adoption of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, but it was moved to June 27 in 2017 to align with the Day of Workers of Culture and Art.
