June 28: Media Workers’ Day (Kazakhstan)

Media Workers' Day, also known as Journalism Day, is observed in Kazakhstan every June 28. This official professional holiday has been celebrated since 2012, originally established as the Day of Press, Television and Radio in 1997. The date commemorates the adoption of the law On Press and Other Mass Media, the first legislation regulating mass media in Kazakhstan. The holiday's name was changed to Communication and Information Worker's Day in 2017 and then to Media Workers' Day in 2020 to better reflect the evolving media landscape, particularly with the rise of Internet media. On this day, journalists and media professionals receive congratulations for their contributions to the field.
