Remembrance Day of the Poznań June 1956 is observed in Poland every June 28. This national holiday commemorates the anniversary of the Poznań protests that occurred in June 1956, where approximately 100,000 people gathered in the center of Poznań to demand wage increases, lower food prices, and the revocation of recent governmental changes. The protests, which began peacefully at the Joseph Stalin's Metal Industries complex, escalated when provocateurs incited violence, leading Polish authorities to deploy around 400 tanks and 10,000 soldiers to suppress the demonstration. The clashes resulted in over 100 deaths and hundreds of injuries. The day was officially established by the Polish parliament on June 21, 2006, marking the 50th anniversary of the uprising, and the first observance was attended by several national leaders from Central Europe.
