Hydrometeorologist Day, also known as Hydrometeorological Service Employees Day, is observed in Tajikistan every June 5, coinciding with the UN World Environment Day. This official professional holiday celebrates the contributions of hydrometeorologists and recognizes the importance of weather forecasting and environmental monitoring. The history of Tajikistan's hydrometeorological service dates back to the late 19th century, with the establishment of the first hydrometeorological station in Khujand in 1870. Over the years, the network expanded significantly, especially after the formation of an independent hydrometeorological service in 1933. Today, the main tasks of this service include providing weather forecasts, hydrological information, and warnings about natural disasters. The holiday is part of the law of the Republic of Tajikistan “On Holidays” and is not a non-working day unless it falls on a weekend.
