The National Day of Homage to Soldiers Who Died for France in Indochina is observed in France every June 8. Established in 2005, this day honors French service members who lost their lives during the First Indochina War, which lasted from 1946 to 1954. The observance includes official wreath-laying ceremonies, with the main ceremony held at the Indochina War Memorial near Fréjus. This date commemorates the internment of the remains of the "Unknown Soldier of Indochina" at Notre Dame de Lorette in 1980. The day was requested by veterans' associations to recognize the sacrifices made during the war, which resulted in over 47,000 French military casualties. Vietnam also observes a remembrance day, Martyrs’ and Wounded Soldiers’ Day, on July 27, to honor those who died or were injured in the conflict.
