Bubble Wrap Appreciation Day is celebrated worldwide on every last Monday of January. This informal holiday originated in the United States and was inspired by a radio station in Bloomington, Indiana, which received new equipment wrapped in bubble wrap. The popping sound of the bubbles being compressed and ruptured inadvertently broadcasted through the new microphones, leading to the creation of this unique celebration. Bubble wrap, a pliable transparent material designed for packing fragile items, was invented by Marc Chavannes and Alfred Fielding, who initially intended it as a washable plastic wallpaper. Although their original idea failed, they recognized its potential as a packing material and founded Sealed Air Corporation. The day not only honors bubble wrap as a practical item but also celebrates the joy it brings through its characteristic popping sound.
