World Spay Day is observed worldwide every last Tuesday of February, with the next occurrence on February 24, 2026. This annual event is dedicated to promoting the spaying and neutering of pets, street dogs, and community cats as a humane method to control the animal population and save lives. It was first launched by the Doris Day Animal League in 1995, originally known as Spay Day USA, and has since been continued by the Humane Society of the United States following a merger in 2006. Participants can engage by spaying their pets, spreading the word through social media, organizing spay/neuter events at local veterinary clinics or animal shelters, or hosting fundraising activities. World Spay Day serves as the only international day of action focused on this important animal welfare issue.
