International Noise Awareness Day is observed worldwide every last Wednesday of April. Launched by the Center for Hearing in Communication in 1996, this global campaign aims to highlight the impact of noise on health and welfare. The term "noise" refers to any unwanted sound, which can range from annoying to harmful, with prolonged exposure to loud noise potentially leading to hearing loss and other health issues such as elevated blood pressure and anxiety. To commemorate this day, various events are organized, including meetings with acousticians and otolaryngologists, public lectures, free hearing screenings, and the distribution of hearing protection. Additionally, the Center conducts an annual survey to identify the noisiest country in the world.
