Laylat al-Mi’raj

Laylat al-Mi’raj, also known as Isra and Miraj, is observed worldwide on the 27th day of the Islamic month of Rajab. This significant event in the Islamic calendar commemorates the Night Journey of the Prophet Muhammad, believed to have occurred around the year 621. The journey consists of two parts: the Isra, which is the travel from Mecca to Jerusalem, and the Mi'raj, which is Muhammad's ascension to the heavens where he conversed with earlier prophets. The Al-Aqsa Mosque in Jerusalem is regarded as the site from which he ascended. Laylat al-Mi’raj is celebrated in many predominantly Islamic countries and is an official public holiday in nations such as Oman, Brunei, Iran, and Djibouti. Customs typically include prayer and supplication in mosques, and in some regions, cities are illuminated with candles and electric lights to mark the occasion.
