Education and Sharing Day is observed in the United States every year on March 29, commemorating the birthday of Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson, the leader of the Chabad-Lubavitch movement. This observance honors Schneerson's significant contributions to education and the betterment of mankind. The day was first proclaimed by President Jimmy Carter in 1978 to celebrate Schneerson's 80th birthday and has since been recognized by every U.S. President. Typical customs include public gatherings and parades, with one of the largest events held in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, New York City, organized by Tzivos Hashem (Jewish Children International). Chabad houses, cultural and educational centers established during Schneerson's lifetime, also play a role in providing young Jewish students with a supportive environment to observe Judaism.
