Flag Day is observed in Kyrgyzstan every March 3, commemorating the adoption of the modern state flag in 1992. Established by a Presidential Decree in 2009, the holiday was first celebrated in 2010. The flag features a red field with a yellow sun at its center, which has 40 rays symbolizing the 40 tribes united by the epic hero Manas against the Mongols. The sun also includes a red ring and two sets of three lines, representing the crown of a traditional Kyrgyz yurt, or tunduk, which signifies family and the universe. The red color of the flag stands for bravery and valor, while the sun symbolizes peace and wealth. This public holiday highlights the national pride and cultural heritage of Kyrgyzstan.
