Established in 2023, the day celebrates the friendship between the two nations and commemorates the 1921 Convention on Defensive Alliance, which pledged mutual military support against potential eastern threats. The holiday reflects the long-standing partnership rooted in a shared historical experience, including the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1919 and cooperation during World War II. Events are organized to honor significant milestones in their relationship, such as the fall of communism in Central and Eastern Europe and the renewal of their Strategic Partnership. The initiative for this observance came from the Foreign Ministers of both countries, and the first celebration took place in 2024. Today, Romania and Poland maintain strong diplomatic, economic, and military ties, participating in regional security initiatives and joint military exercises.
