The Sabah State Governor's Birthday is observed in Malaysia on March 30 each year. This celebration honors the official birthday of the head of the state of Sabah, which is located in the northern part of Borneo. Unlike many other Malaysian states, Sabah has never been an independent sultanate and was historically part of the Bruneian Empire before becoming a British protectorate in the 19th century. Following World War II, it was established as a British Crown colony and later joined the Federation of Malaya in 1963 as Sabah. The current governor, Musa bin Aman, who has been in office since January 2025, was appointed following his acquittal of corruption charges in 2020. The day serves as a regional holiday, recognizing the governance and leadership within the state.
