Staffordshire Day is observed in the ceremonial county of Staffordshire, England, every May 1. Established in 2015, the holiday aims to promote the history and culture of Staffordshire, which is located in the West Midlands and is bordered by several other counties. The day was initiated by Gavin Williamson, a Member of Parliament, who proposed it to honor the county's heritage, with the inaugural celebration taking place in 2016. Events typically include fairs, parades, concerts, and guided tours, held at notable locations such as Alton Towers, Lichfield Cathedral, and Rudyard Lake. The date of May 1 was chosen through a public poll, partly due to its proximity to May Day and the spring bank holiday, allowing for larger celebrations. Since its inception, Staffordshire Day has continued to be celebrated annually, even adapting to online formats during the COVID-19 pandemic.
