The Flower Festival is celebrated annually in Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, on May 10. This unofficial holiday began in 2000 to honor the former President Heydar Aliyev and was originally held on May 11, two days after his birthday, before being rescheduled after his death. The festival features an impressive exhibition of sculptures made from fresh flowers, traditionally displayed in Heydar Aliyev Park, although they were initially located at the seaside boulevard. In 2012, over a million flowers were used for the event, with 116 tons imported from countries such as Holland, France, Germany, and Italy. The celebration includes folk festivals, concerts, and fireworks, marking the conclusion of the festivities.
