Mother's Day is observed in El Salvador, Guatemala, and Mexico every May 10. This celebration, which is not a public holiday, allows families to express love and respect for mothers. The holiday originated in Mexico in 1922, inspired by a campaign from the newspaper Excélsior to promote the role of mothers in families. Over time, the celebration was expanded by Soledad Orozco García, the wife of President Manuel Ávila Camacho, in the 1940s, transforming it into a significant state-sponsored event that lasted a week. Today, the focus is on the single date of May 10, which has been adopted by Guatemala and El Salvador as well. A common tradition during this day is for children to sing the famous song "Las Mañanitas" to their mothers, often accompanied by family gatherings to celebrate motherhood.
