Righteous Among the Nations Remembrance Day is observed in Ukraine every May 14, commemorating Ukrainians who saved Jews during World War II. Established by the Ukrainian parliament in February 2021, this observance honors those who risked their lives to rescue Jews from extermination, a title awarded by Israel based on specific criteria, including selfless motivation and confirmed rescue efforts. The day was chosen to coincide with the anniversary of Israel's declaration of independence in 1948. Events are organized by various Ukrainian ministries and institutions, including the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy and the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center. Notably, over 2,600 Ukrainians have received this honor, placing Ukraine fourth in the number of Righteous Among the Nations, following Poland, the Netherlands, and France.
