VBF Day of Awareness, also known as the International Day of Awareness for Vascular Birthmarks, is observed worldwide every May 15. This day aims to eliminate misconceptions, stereotypes, and stigma surrounding vascular birthmarks, which are benign skin irregularities present at birth or within the first month of life. The day was launched by the Vascular Birthmarks Foundation (VBF), founded by Dr. Linda Rozell-Shannon, whose daughter was diagnosed with a hemangioma. Typical activities include sharing personal stories on social media to normalize vascular birthmarks, signing the VBF Anti-Bullying Pledge, and participating in awareness events. Additionally, individuals can support the campaign by joining the #PutOnYourBirthmark challenge, which involves sharing photos with a heart on the cheek to promote acceptance. The foundation also provides resources for patients and healthcare professionals and funds research to support individuals with vascular birthmarks.
