International Ezerjó Day is observed worldwide every May 16 to celebrate the Ezerjó grape variety, a lesser-known Hungarian white wine grape primarily grown in the Mór wine district of Central Transdanubia. The region has a rich history of viticulture dating back to the Roman period, with local vineyards established by the 11th century. The holiday was initiated by Hungarian winemaker Krisztina Csetvei, who chose this date to honor her daughter's birthday and the death anniversary of renowned winemaker Robert Mondavi. On this day, various stakeholders in the wine industry, including winemakers, restaurateurs, and sommeliers, organize wine tastings and events to introduce wine lovers to Ezerjó wines, which are noted for their crisp, fruity, and herbal notes. Although Ezerjó wines are primarily consumed in Hungary, they can occasionally be found in select European wine shops. The wine pairs well with a variety of dishes, making it a versatile choice for food pairing.
