The Brazilian Air Force Anniversary is observed on May 22 each year, commemorating the renaming of the National Air Forces to the Brazilian Air Force (Força Aérea Brasileira – FAB) in 1941. This day celebrates the establishment of Brazil's military aviation, which began in 1915 during the Contestado War. The Brazilian Air Force is one of the three branches of the Brazilian Armed Forces, alongside the Army and Navy, and has played significant roles in various historical events, including World War II and subsequent military conflicts. With an active strength of nearly 81,000 personnel and around 676 aircraft, it is the largest air force in the Southern Hemisphere. The motto of the Brazilian Air Force, “Wings that protect the country,” reflects its commitment to national defense.
