May 25: Dezful Resistance Day (Iran)

Dezful Resistance Day, also known as Dezful National Day, is observed in Iran every year on May 25. This military observance commemorates the resilience of the city of Dezful during the Iran–Iraq War, particularly highlighting the heavy bombing it endured on May 25, 1986, when Saddam Hussein's forces inflicted significant casualties and damage. The city, located in Khuzestan Province, was subjected to numerous attacks, earning it the nickname "city of missiles." Celebrations honor the determination of Dezful's residents, who continued to attend Friday prayers despite frequent assaults. In recognition of its steadfastness, Dezful was designated as the Capital of Iranian Resistance and Exemplary City. Additionally, a medium-range ballistic missile named after Dezful was unveiled in 2019, symbolizing the city's enduring legacy.
