Mother's Day in Poland is observed every May 26. The holiday has its origins in the USA and spread to various countries during World War I and World War II. The first celebration in Poland took place in Krakow in 1923, but it did not gain popularity at that time. During World War II, the holiday was enforced by Nazi Germany under the name Muttertag, which led to negative associations for many Polish women. Despite these associations, the holiday continued to be observed after the war, although some older women still harbor dislike for it. Typical customs include children creating “laurki,” which are decorated paper cards with wishes for their mothers, and schools organizing special events to celebrate the occasion.
