There are 13 species of otters, with 12 currently facing threats, including seven classified as vulnerable and five as endangered. The International Otter Survival Fund, which founded World Otter Day, has been involved in various conservation efforts, including workshops in countries like Cambodia, Indonesia, and Bangladesh, focusing on otter field techniques and public awareness. The day encourages activities such as education, research, and campaigns to promote otter conservation globally.
