Armed Forces Day is observed in Croatia every May 28, commemorating the establishment of the Croatian Armed Forces, which were officially created in 1991 during the Croatian War of Independence. The day is marked by a solemn ceremony attended by the country's President, Minister of Defense, Chief of the General Staff, government representatives, and both current and former members of the Armed Forces. The Croatian Armed Forces consist of three branches: the ground army, navy, and air force and air defense, with approximately 18,000 active military personnel. This day also coincides with Croatian Ground Army Day, while the Croatian Navy Day is celebrated on September 18 and Croatian Air Force and Air Defense Day on December 12.
