May 28: Youm-e-Takbir (Pakistan)

Youm-e-Takbir, also known as the Day of Greatness, is observed in Pakistan every May 28. This holiday commemorates the anniversary of Pakistan's first nuclear tests conducted in 1998 near Chagai, Balochistan. The initiative for nuclear development in Pakistan began after the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971, particularly accelerating following India's first nuclear test in 1974. In response to India's nuclear tests in May 1998, Pakistan conducted its own tests on May 28 and May 30, officially becoming the seventh nation to possess nuclear weapons and the first in the Muslim world. Established by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Youm-e-Takbir is celebrated with various events, including award ceremonies, flag hoisting, speeches, atomic energy exhibitions, and military displays, reflecting national pride and significance for the Pakistani people and Muslims globally.
