Argentine Army Day is observed in Argentina every May 29, commemorating the official foundation of the Argentine Army in 1810, shortly after the overthrow of Spanish colonial rule in Buenos Aires. The army was established from various local regiments and militia units, with the Infantry Regiment “Los Patricios” being one of the most notable, known for its role in defending Buenos Aires during the British invasions of 1806-1807. Throughout its history, the Argentine Army has been involved in numerous conflicts, including the Spanish American wars of independence, the Falklands War, and various UN peacekeeping missions. It is currently the senior military service in Argentina, with approximately 38,500 active personnel and 16,000 reservists as of 2014. The day serves to honor the contributions and sacrifices of the army throughout its history.
