National Home Front Heroes Day is observed in the United States every May 9 to honor civilians who support service members from the home front, contributing to the war effort without being directly involved in combat. The day was established in 2019 by WWII veteran John “Lucky” Luckadoo to recognize the sacrifices and dedication of those who assist military personnel while they are deployed. The inaugural celebration took place in Dallas, Texas, at Presbyterian Village North, a retirement community where Luckadoo lived. Activities typically include community events, sharing stories of home front heroes, and promoting the day on social media using the hashtag #HomeFrontHeroesDay. Although the observance has gained popularity, it has not yet been officially recognized at the federal level. The home front's significance in supporting military efforts has been evident since the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with notable contributions during both World Wars.
