Mina Foundation Day, or Araw ng Pagkatatag ng Bayan ng Mina, is observed in the municipality of Mina, Iloilo, Philippines, on September 9 each year. This special working holiday commemorates the establishment of Mina as an independent municipality after the Philippines gained independence. Originally a barrio of Pototan, Mina was elevated to pueblo status in 1870 but faced challenges in becoming a full parish until 1873. After a period of reversion to Pototan following the Philippine-American War, local leaders successfully petitioned for its independence in the 1960s. The municipality was officially re-established on September 9, 1968, and this date is now celebrated annually as Mina Foundation Day. The day serves as a reminder of the community's history and resilience.
