November 1: Revival Leaders’ Day (Bulgaria)

Revival Leaders' Day is observed in Bulgaria every November 1, honoring the most outstanding figures of the Bulgarian National Revival, a period of national integration among Bulgarians under Ottoman rule. The day commemorates prominent leaders such as Paisius of Hilendar, Hristo Botev, and Vasil Levski, among others. First marked in 1909 in Plovdiv, it became a national holiday in 1923 but was abolished in 1945 when Bulgaria became a socialist state. The celebration was restored in 1992 after the fall of communism. Although not a public holiday, schools have an official day off, and the day is marked with flag-raising ceremonies and cultural events throughout the country. Many Bulgarians participate in these events to honor the leaders of the Bulgarian Renaissance.
