International Energy Saving Day is observed worldwide every November 11. It was initiated by the School Project for Application of Resources and Energy (SPARE), an educational program aimed at promoting energy efficiency and environmental awareness among schoolchildren aged 7 to 18. The SPARE program, launched by the Norwegian Society for the Conservation of Nature in 1996, has been adopted by schools and environmental organizations in numerous countries, including Russia, where it is most developed. The main objective of this day is to educate students and their communities about sustainable energy use and conservation strategies, such as utilizing renewable energy sources and improving energy efficiency in daily practices. Events typically focus on discussions around energy conservation, eco-efficiency, and the implementation of renewable energy technologies. Through these initiatives, SPARE encourages participants to consider how to meet energy demands while minimizing environmental impact.
