America Recycles Day is observed in the USA every November 15. This day is the only nationally organized event dedicated to recycling and the promotion of buying recycled products. Initiated by the National Recycling Coalition in 1997, it became part of the nonprofit program Keep America Beautiful in 2009. The celebration emphasizes the importance of recycling for environmental conservation and encourages Americans to sign personal pledges to recycle and purchase recycled goods. While the USA lacks a national law mandating recycling, local governments often implement their own regulations, such as deposit laws for beverage containers. In contrast, mandatory recycling has been standard practice across the European Union since the 1990s. America Recycles Day aims to improve the relatively low recycling rates in the country.
