Glass Industry Workers’ Day is observed in Ukraine and Russia every November 19. This professional holiday commemorates the birthday of Mikhail Lomonosov, a Russian polymath who significantly advanced the glass industry by establishing the first factory producing glass mosaics outside Italy and developing the theoretical foundations of glass production. The day was first celebrated unofficially in Russia in 2000 and became an official holiday in 2003. In Ukraine, it was officially established by President Leonid Kuchma in December 2003, with the first celebration occurring on November 19, 2004. The holiday acknowledges the vital role of glass industry workers in producing everyday items such as bottles, windows, and lamps.
