November 23: Watercolor Day

World Watercolor Day, also known as International Watercolor Day, is observed worldwide every November 23. This celebration was initiated by Mexican artist Alfredo Guati Rojo, who aimed to promote watercolor painting, which he felt was undervalued as an art form. Guati Rojo, who began his artistic journey in primary school, founded the Mexican Society of Watercolor Artists and the world’s first Watercolor Museum in 1964. Although the museum faced challenges, including destruction from the 1985 Mexico City earthquake, it continued to operate through personal funds and donations after Guati Rojo's passing in 2003. On World Watercolor Day, exhibitions of watercolor paintings are held in various cities, showcasing the beauty and significance of this art form.
