Roses Revolution Day is observed worldwide every November 25, coinciding with the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women. This day focuses specifically on obstetric violence, which includes mistreatment and abuse experienced by individuals during pregnancy, childbirth, or postpartum care. The movement originated in 2011 by Spanish birth activist Mara “Jesusa” Ricoy in response to derogatory cartoons about childbirth published in a medical journal. On this day, women place pink roses outside maternity hospitals or delivery rooms where they have suffered obstetric violence, often accompanied by notes addressed to the medical professionals involved. The campaign aims to protest against the disrespectful treatment women receive before, during, and after childbirth. Participants can also engage by starting petitions, organizing marches, donating to relevant organizations, or using social media hashtags like #RosesRevolutionDay and #StopObstetricViolence.
