Tajik Theatre Day is observed in Tajikistan every year on November 7, commemorating the opening of the first professional theatre in the country in 1929, now known as the Abolqasem Lahouti Tajik Academic Drama Theatre. Established in 1997, this day celebrates the rich history and development of Tajik theatre, which has roots in Persian theatre traditions. Tajikistan is home to seventeen professional theatres, with six located in the capital, Dushanbe, including the Sadriddin Ayni Tajik Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre and the Dushanbe Puppet Theatre.
