Nuzul Al-Qur’an (Brunei and Malaysia)

Nuzul Al-Qur’an is an Islamic holiday that commemorates the revealing of the first verses of the Qur’an to Muhammad the Prophet, observed primarily in Brunei and some Malaysian states and federal territories. This holiday is celebrated on the 17th day of Ramadan, which is the month during which the Qur’an was revealed. The first verse was said to have been revealed by the archangel Jibrail (Gabriel) while Muhammad was in retreat in the cave of Hira near Mecca. Although the exact date of the revelation is unknown, many Sunni Muslims celebrate it on the 27th of Ramadan, while Shia Muslims observe it on the 23rd, known as Laylat al-Qadr. The holiday serves as a reminder of the significance of the Qur’an, the central religious text of Islam, which was revealed over a period of twenty-three years.
