Mother's Day in Argentina is celebrated on the third Sunday in October. This observance originally coincided with the Feast of the Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which was established in Portugal in 1914 and adopted by the Catholic Church in 1931. Although the feast was moved to January 1 in 1969, Argentine tradition kept Mother's Day in October. On this day, children and families honor mothers by giving handmade crafts, greeting cards, flowers, jewelry, and other gifts.
