Paramedics’ Day, also known as Emergency Medical Services Day (Dzień Ratownictwa Medycznego), is observed in Poland every October 13. This official professional holiday was established in 2006 following the adoption of the Law on State Medical Assistance. It celebrates the work of paramedics, who are healthcare professionals primarily involved in emergency medical services and are trained to make autonomous decisions regarding patient care. To become a paramedic in Poland, individuals typically undergo three years of training, or two years if they already hold an undergraduate degree. The day honors the contributions of these professionals, although it is not a public holiday and remains a working day unless it falls on a weekend. The patron saint of emergency medical services in Poland is the Blessed Gerard, the founder of the Order of St. John of Jerusalem, recognized for his dedication to caring for the sick and injured.
