World Thrombosis Day is observed worldwide every October 13, with the primary goal of raising public awareness about thrombosis, a condition where blood clots form in the body even without injury to blood vessels. The day was established in 2014 by the International Society on Thrombosis and Haemostasis and is commemorated on this date to honor the birth anniversary of Rudolf Virchow, a German physician who contributed significantly to the understanding of thrombosis and embolism. On this day, over 175 organizations globally conduct educational forums, information campaigns, and various events to disseminate knowledge about thrombosis, including its causes, risk factors, signs, symptoms, prevention, and treatment. Thrombosis can lead to serious health issues, such as stroke and myocardial infarction, making the observance particularly important for public health education.
