World Standards Day is observed worldwide every October 14. It was officially established in 1970 by Faruk Sünter, the then-President of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), to highlight the significance of standardization in the global economy. The date commemorates the 1946 London conference where the ISO was conceived, following the need for international standards to facilitate commerce, particularly after the Industrial Revolution. Celebrations are coordinated by various international standards organizations, including the ISO, International Electrotechnical Commission, and International Telecommunication Union, among others. Activities conducted by national standards organizations around the globe aim to promote the importance of developing and implementing technical standards.
