Global Handwashing Day is observed worldwide every October 15, promoting the importance of washing hands with soap during critical moments to prevent diarrhea and acute respiratory infections. Established in 2008 during World Water Week in Stockholm, the United Nations General Assembly designated this date for the observance. Events related to handwashing are organized annually in approximately 70 countries, particularly targeting regions in Africa, Asia, and South America. The first observance emphasized the role of handwashing in saving children's lives, highlighting that using soap after using the toilet can reduce child deaths from diarrhea by half and pneumonia by a quarter. This simple yet effective practice is considered even more impactful than regular vaccination.
