Established by President Alexander Lukashenko in 1998, this professional holiday highlights the significance of the pharmaceutical and microbiological sectors to the country’s economy and healthcare. The development of these industries in Belarus began in 1991, following the country’s independence, with the Belbiopharm Concern initially overseeing production. After its liquidation in 2011, the Ministry of Health took over the regulatory functions, focusing on ensuring compliance with legislation and promoting high-quality pharmaceutical products. The Ministry also emphasizes the expansion of product ranges and increasing exports. The Institute of Microbiology of the National Academy of Sciences plays a vital role in the microbiological sector, researching the use of microorganisms in various biotechnological applications. While the day is recognized for its importance, it is not a non-working day unless it falls on a weekend.
