October 16: Boss’s Day (Canada and United States)

Boss's Day is observed worldwide on every October 16, focusing on strengthening the bond between employers and employees. This annual secular holiday was established in 1958 by Patricia Bays Haroski, who registered it with the United States Chamber of Commerce, choosing the date to honor her father's birthday. In 1962, the holiday was officially proclaimed by the Governor of Illinois, Otto Kerner. Boss's Day encourages employees to show appreciation for their bosses, recognizing their fairness and kindness, while also aiming to improve intra-office relationships and mutual understanding. Initially celebrated in the United States and Canada, it has expanded to include countries such as Australia, Ireland, India, Romania, and Lithuania. Hallmark Cards has been selling Boss's Day cards since 1979, further popularizing the holiday.
