Bridge Day is celebrated on the third Saturday of October, in Fayetteville, West Virginia, United States. This festival attracts around 100,000 adventure enthusiasts who participate in or observe extreme sports activities, primarily BASE jumping from the New River Gorge Bridge. The event is organized by the New River Gorge Bridge Day Commission, which closes the bridge to automobile traffic for the festivities. Activities include daredevil jumps, rappels, and white-water rafting, with the first Bridge Day held in 1980. Although bungee jumping was once a highlight, it was banned in 1994 due to safety concerns. The event has also been associated with numerous world records in extreme sports.
