October 19: Rescuer Day (Kazakhstan)

Rescuer Day is observed in Kazakhstan every October 19 to commemorate the establishment of the State Committee for Emergency Situations in 1995. The holiday recognizes the vital role of rescuers, who are trained to respond to various emergencies, including natural disasters and industrial accidents. Initially, Kazakhstan lacked a dedicated agency for emergency services until 1988, when the Soviet Union created the Permanent Emergency Commission. Following independence, the country's emergency services were revitalized, leading to the official creation of the State Committee. The Ministry of Emergency Situations, which oversees emergency management and civil protection, organizes festive events such as remembrance ceremonies for fallen rescuers, award presentations, and concerts. Rescuer Day is not a non-working day unless it coincides with a weekend.
