Philippine-British Friendship Day is celebrated annually on October 20 to recognize and strengthen the close relationship between the Philippines and the United Kingdom. Established in 2000, the celebration was moved from December 7 to October 20 in 2008 to coincide with the opening of the new British Embassy in Taguig City. The day honors individuals and institutions that have contributed to the economic, cultural, and friendly ties between the two nations. The U.K. is one of the largest investors in the Philippines, with around 90,000 British visitors to the country each year. The historical connection between the two countries dates back to the early 16th century, with significant events such as the British occupation of Manila from 1762 to 1764. Today, the Filipino community in the U.K. has grown significantly, with many working in various sectors, including teaching and medicine.
