Azad Kashmir Day is observed in Pakistan every October 24, commemorating the foundation anniversary of Azad Jammu and Kashmir, a region administered by Pakistan. The day marks the establishment of the second provisional government of Azad Jammu and Kashmir by Muhammad Ibrahim Khan on this date in 1947, following a period of conflict and rebellion against the Maharaja of Jammu and Kashmir. The territory is recognized as a nominally self-governing entity with its own government structures, including a president and legislative assembly. Celebrations highlight Pakistan's claim to the territory, amidst the ongoing Kashmir conflict with India, which arose when the Maharaja chose to join India after British rule ended. In addition to Azad Kashmir Day, Pakistan also observes Kashmir Solidarity Day on February 5 to express support for the parts of Kashmir administered by India.
